The socket extension is required for the BMW RnineT Racer.
On this bike the foot pegs are set back towards the rear. This means that without the socket extension the lever arm will contact the gear lever.

With the socket extension the lever arm will clear the gear lever/foot peg assembly.
The socket extension does not work in conjunction with the Rangier-Adapter Set!
